Vincent Goodstadt METREX Network of European Metropolitan Regions Vincent Goodstadt is head of European Relations for the Metrex Network of European Metropolitan Regions, a consortium of some 40 metro areas that provides a forum for information sharing and joint action on issues of common interest. He is one of the leading advocates for effective national planning to respond to the emergence of megaregions.
An honorary professor of planning at Manchester University, Mr. Goodstadt is an adviser to the British government’s Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and the Academy for Sustainable Communities. He has also served as an adviser to various international agencies, including the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development on Melbourne, Australia and the European Environment Agency on the quality of life in cities and towns.
No stranger to planning in the United States, he participated in the “America 2050” project and serves on the European faculty of the University of Pennsylvania. He currently chairs the Global Planners Network steering group, which is assessing the global capacity to do effective planning.
He has held a range of senior management posts, including chief officer for the joint statutory strategic planning organization for the Glasgow Metropolitan area. He consults with a range of public and private organizations on such matters as housing market renewal, town center redevelopment and community involvement.
Mr. Goodstadt is the past president of the Royal Town Planning Institute and current chair of its International Committee. He is a vice president of the Town and Country Planning Association and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce.
